Graduate and Professional Students

UNC students are the focus of much of what happens at Newman. Spiritual, social, and service based opportunities are offered on a daily basis to meet the needs of an ever-growing, ever-changing community.
Graduate and Professional Students are a significant portion of our active parish population. Aware of your importance to our vitality, Newman is committed to making a concerted effort to minister to your specific needs. In addition to being welcome at every event hosted by the Newman Young Adults, Graduate and Professional Students are invited to participate in various programs that are designed for you.

  Graduate Welcome

Programs

  • Small Faith Group: Each Tuesday at 9pm a group of Graduate and Professional Students gathers to pray and discuss issues pertinent to their lives as Catholics and as students. The topics discussed vary depending on the interests of the group each semester. Normally the group meets in Newman’s library, but occasionally one of the student members hosts the gathering for an evening. For more information about the Graduate and Professional Students Small Faith Group, please contact Dan Burke.
  • Sunday Mass: Graduate and Professional Students are welcome at every Mass at Newman. Because of its emphasis on the spiritual needs of young adults, you may be interested in attending our 7pm Mass on Sunday evenings during the school year, otherwise known as the Student Mass. All of the liturgical ministers and choir members at this Mass are UNC students. You are invited to join fellow Graduate and Professional Students, as well as hundreds of UNC Undergrads, at this Eucharistic celebration.
  • Service Projects - Contact Matthew Hayes at 451-0204 if you would like to volunteer with the Service Projects Committee. Events: IFC - Preparing Lunch, (3rd Saturday of each month), Visits to the Nursing Home, Cooking Dinner at Homestart.

Because Newman is committed to its ministry to Graduate and Professional Students, we are interested in learning how we can better meet your needs. If you have any questions or ideas that you would like to share regarding ministry to Graduate and Professional Students, please feel contact our office.
