Prayer Opportunities

The Newman Center offers a wide range of prayer and retreat opportunities and encourages participation by all. Please check out the information below and the links to your left to find something that you're interested in. We hope you'll take this wonderful opportunity to get involved and enrich your spiritual life!

Monday Devotion

Students and non-student parishioners come together every Monday at 5:00 p.m. for Devotion. We will pray Vespers, the evening prayer of the Divine Office said by priests and laity alike. Monday Devotions will always be held at 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, so please join us if you would like to find some time to pray aside from daily Mass. Contact Mary Bigelow or Michael Krouse for more information.

Rosary

Newman has Rosaries available and copies of the prayers for individuals not comfortable in their knowledge of the Rosary or Stations of the Cross. Everyone is always welcome. It is a good time to find some peace and calmness during a hectic week.

Hosanna Prayer Group

Deepen your relationship with Jesus. Experience a fuller life in the Holy Spirit. Hosanna is a small Charismatic prayer group that meets, weekly, on Thursday evening from 7:30 p.m till about 9:30 p.m. The group consists primarily of Catholics from Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, and Hillsborough. However, some faithful "pray-ers" are members of other denominations; all are welcome. Bring your neighbors with you. The group is led by Marcia Ollis.

Women Gathering

Women of all ages come together monthly to share ideas, discuss what we have read, pray together, and hopefully, "grow in wisdom and grace." Usually this group meets on the 4th Monday of each month. We will discuss Blessed Mother Teresa pg 93, All Souls pg 103, and Our Lady of Guadalupe pg 103 in the book Fragments of Real Presence by Teresa Berger. However, see the bulletin or contact Noreen Ordrenneau for specifics of this month's meeting.

Contemplative Prayer Group

Our aim is to provide a quiet time and space for contemplative silence and be a source of support for a regular spiritual practice that is relevant to daily life. We now offer a choice of two meeting times. We meet from 5:00-5:45pm on Mondays in addition to the usual 7:00-7:40am Tuesday times. We meet in the Library. All are welcome to this opportunity to allow God to come to us in silence as a community of worshippers.

Contact: Ann Hamrick at 933-8707.
