Service Projects

The Service Project Committee has several specific activities that fall under the category of charitable works. Projects range from cooking at the IFC, which is all year long, to the Jesse tree, which takes place near Advent. Look below to find out more about the different projects that we participate in. The committee meets at the Newman Center on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 21st. All are welcome. Contact Matt Hayes for more information.

IFC

The Jesse Tree
Beginning the weekend of November 11th-12th, our Jesse Tree will be up in the lobby! This is a yearly event leading up to the celebration of Christmas where you will have the opportunity to help impoverished families in our Diocese. You can contribute a Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner with a $25 donation for families selected by the Piedmont Deanary Office of Catholic Social Ministries AND/OR purchase a Wal-Mart Gift Card for $25 for an impoverished Hispanic family. Your generous support is greatly appreciated and make a special difference in a family's holiday celebration.
The tree in the lobby of the Newman Center represents all those donations that will be made thanks to the generous support of our students and parishioners.
 The Interfaith Council
We participate during the year in staffing the soup kitchen, with an emphasis on certain days and times of the calendar year. Everyone is welcome to volunteer in this ministry.
Crop Walk
This is a seasonal event that focuses attention on world hunger, especially in the "third world" countries.
Nursing Homes
Visiting the issue of an aging population is of enormous importance. On a personal level, visitation is rewarding and well received by lonely clients in these facilities. The more global issue is humane treatment and adequate health care for the elderly. Please contact Matt Hayes for more information.
Immigrant Families

The Newman parish on occasion will sponsor immigrant families and help them relocate and deal with their newly chosen country and society.
