Confirmation

In the Diocese of Raleigh, preparation for Confirmation is a two year process. A student must be involved in catechesis in the first year - the remote phase. The second year, the immediate phase is the year that the student is Confirmed.

High School Confirmation Candidates

In the Diocese of Raleigh, preparation for Confirmation is a two-year process. A student must be involved in catechesis in the first year, the remote phase. The second year, the immediate phase is the year that the student is Confirmed.

In the remote phase or first year of Confirmation preparation (ninth grade), we require that you:

• Attend most of the Newman Youth Catechesis (NYC) sessions on Sundays from 12:30 to 2:00pm at the Newman
• Catholic Student Center Parish
• Attend an NYC Retreat
• Participate in at least 3 service projects
• Attend one presentation from the Newman Speaker Series with your parent(s) 5:30pm-6:30 pm: Sept. 4th, Oct. 2nd, Nov. 6th, Feb.5th, March 4th, April 1st
• Attend one presentation from the Pathways to Peace series with your parent(s) 7:30pm-8:30 pm: Sept. 10th, Oct. 8th, Nov. 12th, Feb. 11th, March 3rd, April 14th
• Attend Mass, attend Mass, attend Mass!

In the immediate phase or second year of confirmation preparation (tenth grade), we require that you:

• Attend all eight Confirmation sessions 1:30-2:30pm
  o Sept. 30th, Oct. 28th, Nov. 18th, Dec. 16th
  o Jan. 27th, Feb.24th, March 16th, April 13th
• Attend three Newman Speaker Series presentations 5:30pm to 6:30pm: Sept. 4th, Oct. 2nd, Nov. 6th, Feb.5th, March 4th, April 1st
• Attend three Pathways to Peace social justice presentations 7:30pm to 8:30pm: Sept. 10th, Oct. 8th, Nov. 12th, Feb. 11th, March 3rd, April 14th
• Attend most of the Newman Youth Catechesis (NYC) sessions on Sundays from 12:30 to 2:00pm
• Attend an NYC retreat
• Attend the Deanery Confirmation Retreat date TBA
• 25 hours of service (combined from 9th and 10th grades)
• Complete a confirmation workbook and journal
• Schedule interviews with Kyle Kleber & Fr. John Wall before Confirmation
• Confirmation Celebration Rehearsal - April 27, 2008 at St Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill at 4:00pm.  Candidates and sponsors must attend.
• Confirmation Celebration- May 1, 2008 at St Thomas More Catholic Church  in Chapel Hill 7:00pm.  Confirmation Candidates should arrive no later than 6:00pm
• Attend Mass, attend Mass, attend Mass!
