First Eucharist/Reconciliation

Traditionally, Reconciliation and Eucharist are celebrated for the first time in second grade. Families receive “workbooks” for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist and parents and children work together preparing for the sacraments in the home. Sacramental preparation will be supplemented in the classroom during Catechetical sessions. Children must have completed at least one year of catechesis prior to beginning sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

Parents are the first and the best catechists for their children. It is important that your child see that religious education is important to you. Growing in your faith is a life-long journey and not just something that we do when we are young. We would like to support parents in their own faith formation so that they will be confident catechists for their children. Children will have many questions regarding the sacraments and we want to allow parents the opportunity to be able to answer their questions. Parents of children receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time are required to attend five catechetical sessions during the year of sacramental preparation.
