Marriage
The
purpose of this preparation program is to help the engaged
couple to realistically establish their relationship
as a sacramental covenant. The preparation meetings
are designed to clarify what you expect of each other,
to help in expressing candid feelings, especially differences
between yourselves, and to assess strengths and weaknesses.
It is also important to insure that all topics and issues
relevant to marriage planning are reviewed and understood
by all.
If
you plan to prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage at
the Newman Center, you must notify us at least six
months before your wedding date.
Requirements
are as follows:
- The
Catholic party/parties must be registered members
and identifiably practicing Catholic(s).
- An
initial meeting with Tracey
Ocampo to begin paperwork. This is necessary
even if the wedding is to take place in a different
locale. Please call the Newman office to set
up an appointment.
- Attendance
at either an ENGAGED ENCOUNTER WEEKEND or the Diocesan
1-day Marriage Preparation Forum. Please register
online at www.dioceseofraleigh.org
or by calling the Diocese at (919) 821-9700.
- The
completion of a pre-marital inventory called FOCCUS
(Facilitation Open Couple Communication, Understanding
and Study).
- A
meeting with a Newman staff member to discuss the
results of the FOCCUS.
- If
your wedding is to take place at the Newman Catholic
Student Center Parish, a meeting with the Music
Minister to review music selections and finalize
the Liturgical preparations.
- If
your wedding will take place in a non-Catholic Church
or at the Newman Center by a visiting Priest or
Deacon from outside the Diocese of Raleigh, we must
have a letter from his Bishop or Provincial stating
the celebrant is a Priest/Deacon in good standing.
- Affidavits
Regarding the Free Status of the Bride and Groom
must be witnessed.
- Completion
of all paperwork required by our Diocese.
- BAPTISMAL
CERTIFICATE:
A certificate of Baptism, issued within the
past six months, with notations, will be asked
of each Catholic person.
Baptized non-Catholics are asked to provide
some proof of Baptism.
