Faith in Action

WELCOME! Empowered by the Spirit of God in the Word and enabled by the love of God in the Eucharist we are called to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are a community that offers opportunities to deepen love of scripture and tradition, individual and communal spiritual guidance, opportunities for retreats, mission experiences, service and work for peace and justice.

The Newman Center offers a variety of opportunities to be of service to others, to advocate for justice, to understand Catholic Social Teaching and to reflect prayerfully on these experiences.

Newman's Alternative Break Program

These short term trips allow Newman students to serve the vulnerable, learn about the systemic problems underlying today’s most pressing issues and provide an opportunity for transformation. Dare to participate and you will never be the same!

Fall Break Trip - Charleston, SC and Washington, DC
Join us on this first ever fall break experience; a service retreat! It will combine the service elements of a mission trip with the focused faith formation found on retreats, with the hope of enriching participants lives through service while further developing their relationship with Christ. The goal is to provide the best aspects of retreats and mission trips in such a way that they will impact lives more deeply than each experience would on its own.
Applications available early September.

Philadelphia, PA - Good Works: Pack your bags and head to the city of brotherly love for a week of service, prayer and simple living. Volunteers join Sisters of Saint Joseph in responding to the needs of children and staff in local schools.

McKee, KY - Christian Appalachian Project: Newman’s first and longest running alternative spring break trip. Join other colleges from around the country to renovate homes in Jackson County, Kentucky – the second poorest county in the United States.

“Together we prayed, ate, painted, landscaped, played and cared for others. In short, loving others the best we could in becoming the hands, feet and heart of Christ.” – Lindsay Ruebens, Senior
